8-7

The day has finally arrived for my students to come, and Wendy my collaborator too of course. They arrived around 10AM, and I borrowed my friend Lanny’s car to pick them up. It was all very surreal. I’ve been to Majuro so many times, but I’ve always been on my own. So to suddenly see people I know from BYU in the airport just seemed impossible.

My students love it here. The day consisted of our taking a little tour of our side of the island, eating lunch at Tide Table, going swimming at the Marshall Islands Resort, going to Payless to buy groceries, and then watching How to Train Your Dragon at our apartment. These are all things I do all the time (except for maybe the tour), but observing people experience Majuro for the first time reminds me of what an amazing place this is. I’m sure they could describe how they are feeling better than I can. But to me, it seems overwhelming and exciting and so many other things, as if they are trying to soak up everything at once but can’t.
