Do you ever have those days when you feel like you can’t seem to accomplish anything you want to? Today has been like that for me. I started out the day trying to go to CopyMasters to print a few work things. When I got there, I was informed that the power on this side of the island will be off until 5PM so that they can make some repairs at the power plant. So I decided to go and check email and do a few things downtown. Luckily, wireless is still up and running. Around 11:30, I went to meet my friend Melanie for lunch at Dar Coffee Corner, but she never showed up. I was still going to eat there, but for some reason the waitress wouldn’t come over to take my order. I left and decided to go home and eat there, only it started to rain and I didn’t want to wait in the rain for a taxi. So I went into another restaurant and am waiting for my food. By now, I am starving. I hope they hurry with my lunch.
Not much else happened on Thursday and Friday. I did finally get my copies made at CopyMasters, and Melanie and I made it to dinner on Friday night. It was actually really fun to catch up with her. Part of me is jealous that she is going to be staying here for the next 2 years, but it’s sort of a funny reason that I’m jealous. When she told me, my first thought was, “Wow, her Marshallese is really going to be good after 2 years.” So I’m jealous for her potential for linguistic accomplishment and not for the fact that she gets to stay on a Pacific islands.
