It’s day 2 of my stay in Majuro, and I’m doing my best to stay awake until 9PM. Between the jetlag, the caffeine withdraw, and the heat, I’ve been wanting to go to sleep since about 4PM this afternoon. Hopefully it will pass in a couple of days.
I’ve spent the last couple of days visiting with old friends. It was great to go to church today and to be greeted by so many people that I love. It’s funny how little things have changed in the last 2 years. There are a few new buildings and there’s high speed and wireless internet here now, but other than that, things are pretty much the same. Of course there are also all those little things I’d forgotten about. For example, our shower is a spout jutting out of the wall, and today in Relief Society in church the teacher didn’t show up, so we all read the lesson manual aloud, in unison. There are other things, but sometimes I think it’s the little things like that that can be endearing.
Things seem to be falling into place for the rest of my trip. I think I’ve found speakers to work with for the next few weeks, and I was invited to go to the outer island of Jaluit with a friend of mine, who is the mayor there. I really hope this all works out so that I can go. I think it would be just wonderful to get to go out there.
That’s all for now. More soon.
